The disability paradox – does it really exist? Selected contexts and topics for discussion

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the phenomenon referred to as the disability paradox by analyzing the concept according to three main aspects: semantic inconsistency, relationships between objective and subjective indicators, differences in beliefs regarding quality of life determinants, the sense of happiness and other positive life experiences reported by outsiders and insiders. Within these three semantic areas, issues are addressed presenting grounds for the perceived contradiction between the two phenomena: disability and high quality of life. What is more, the paper introduces topics for discussion providing arguments for questioning premises supporting validity of the disability paradox.
