Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to reconstruct the presence of Jacques Derrida in Poland. The author presents the specificity of the Polish reception of the French philosopher’s works. An important moment in this respect was Derrida’s visit to Poland in 1997, which changed the path and direction of interpretation of his thought. While in the 1980s and early 1990s he was seen primarily as a philosopher showing a new way to read philosophy and literature, later he was regarded as an engaged thinker, taking up problems of importance for the modern day. In Poland, this was a result of his lectures which strongly underscored the ethical aspect of teaching and doing philosophy. The article also draws attention to the quality of Polish translations of Derrida’s works.
