Summary/Abstract: The following publication presents the teaching of the Church regardingparticipation of lay persons in the life of the universal Church and in parishcommunities. Issues concerning the practical dimension of participation oflay persons in the ministry were presented. Lay persons undoubtedly constitutea significant element of the Church, without them (as Pope John Paul IItaught us), actions of the clergy could not be fully efficient. Lay persons area key element of the life of the Church, since they create the Church as a communityof baptised believers. However, it depends on the clergy (especially theparish priest) if and to what extent lay persons will participate and be activein the pastoral work, evangelisation and functioning of a parish community.Nowadays, the efficiency and fruitfulness of the ministry and evangelisationdemand engagement and participation of lay believers. We should take thisopportunity.
