Summary/Abstract: The Estonian writer Eduard Vilde (1865-1933) lived in Western Europe for almost 20 years. From 1890 to 1892, he dwelt in Berlin working as a journalist and writing stories in German. After the Russian revolution of 1905, he emigrated to Europe and published some of his belletristic production in several German social-democratic publications. At the same time, his works were being translated into Finnish, Latvian and Hungarian. The article focuses on how Vilde's writings have been translated into languages of European nations.
