Summary/Abstract: The article provides an overview of the Estonian literary criticism published in 2003-2004. As for critical essays, separate treatments are given to texts published in newspapers and in journals, as well as to the most prolific authors. Newspaper reviews tend to reflect the current situation in the book market rather than in the Estonian literary culture. Journal critique is classified using an evaluative vs. analytical scale. The analysis of literary studies follows a methodological approach, tracing methods rigorously applied to definitive books. Besides psychoanalysis, pragmapoetics, and analysis of the literary situation inspired by sociolinguistics, a number of studies are found to concentrate around identity history (mainly literary histories of epochs that had a specific influence on the Estonian identity, plus a few attempts at a postcolonial approach).
