Summary/Abstract: Aksel Tamm was chief editor of the publishing house Eesti Raamat in 1966–1982. His memoirs Aga see oli üks mees. Eluvisandeid (”But he was a man. Sketches of a life”; Tallinn, 2003) is discussed as a publishing history as well as a source material on people and times. As a publisher’s work typically involves secrets to be handled with delicate care its analysis should be source critical as well as psychologically valid. Both have indeed been the aims pursued by Aksel Tamm in his ”Sketches”.
