Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to show—by means of a rigorous analysis of the harmonic principles which govern the multiple sections of the work—that beyond the apparently heterogeneous surface the musical discourse is coherently and subtly organised within a space governed by complex relations of symmetry. Through these symmetries we witness a constant resonance between microcosm and macrocosm. This analysis brings new light upon Szymanowski’s architectural conception, which suddenly reveals itself clear and intelligible.
