Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze the Internet memes as a reflection of popular themes and social moods manifested specifically in so-called “Internet culture”. In the introduction, the origins of memes are described in relation to the memetics, a science from which they derive. Next part of the article reflects on the impact of Internet memes and their major functions: communication, information, ludic, integrating and opinion-forming. Reflection on the social and cultural phenomenon of memes, treated as digital signs circulating in the network, is based on the analysis of specific examples of Internet memes, which users created as a commentary to the events shown in media between 2013 and 2015.
