Summary/Abstract: The article aims to investigate the role and necessary competences of a mediator in interpersonal conflicts between representatives of diverse cultures. Intercultural conflict, due to its specific characteristics, requires particular knowledge and skills concerning e.g. intercultural communication, legal issues, cultural habits, as well as possible conflict resolution strategies. The presented analysis will be based both on theoretical concepts as well as on practical mediation experiences. The paper is interdisciplinary in character through references to both cross-cultural psychology and social psychology literature, as well as intercultural conflict resolution practice. It includes some practical implications for mediators.
