Summary/Abstract: In recent years the southern part of Pskov Oblast has not been the object of dialectological research in terms of the usage of the Belarusian dialects and the area of mutual intermingling of the Belarusian and Russian languages. Except for the report of the 1903 expedition by Y. Karskiy and the article by P. Buzuk of 1926 there have not been prepared any works, which would present this particular borderland. In addition, the Russian dialectologists usually classify these dialects as the Russian ones (and not as the Belarusian-Russian transitional dialects), and the linguistic features, which should be considered as Belarusian, are regarded as „the regional Russian features”. This article describes the contemporary condition of dialects in the Nevelsky District on the basis of the material collected by the author during the field studies in 2014. The author’s aim is to present how the structure of the Belarusian dialects altered in the researched area in comparison with their features denoted almost 100 years earlier and what the degree of the Russian language interference is.
