Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to outline problems focused on translation of Upper Sorbian novels into Polish. In particular, it deals with diachronic, quantitative, personal and ontological aspects of translations of Upper Sorbian novels into Polish, as well as translation strategies applied by Polish translators. Four novels have been translated into the Polish language so far, of which three have been published in print, including one trilogy, one mini-novel and 8 novel excerpts. Most of the Upper Sorbian novels available in Polish, as a whole or in fragments, were written by the same author, Jurij Brězan. A negative phenomenon of the Polish reception of the Upper Sorbian novel in the Western Slavic background is constituted by the fact that he relied almost exclusively on German versions of pieces of writing.
