Summary/Abstract: In the second half of the XIX century through debate with Pannonian theory, the authors of which were B. (J.) Kopitar and. F. Miklosich, formed viewes on the origin of the Old Church Slavonic language. During the debate, reflected in the writings of Jagić, correspondence leading scientists of the second half of the XIX century (Kopitar, Dobrovsky) fortified position on the Bulgarian-Macedonian basis of the first written language of Slavs. Studies have allowed us to make more general conclusions about the nature of the relationship of Old Church Slavonic and Proto-Slavic languages, the place of Old Church Slavonic language in the circle of Slavic languages. The questions posed Pannonian theory, attracted the attention of researches because of their roots they go in understanding the situation in the Slavic South in age, close in time to the Proto-Slavic.
