Summary/Abstract: Writing, the carrier of culture and the symbol of human civilization, first appeared in Sumer. Like other ancient languages of Egypt and India, ancient Sumerian symbols have been lost in the process of history, but only Chinese characters still remain in use today. They have played a signifi cant role in the development of Chinese language and culture. This article intends to display how Chinese characters were created and how they were simplifi ed from the ancient form of writing to more abstract.
