Summary/Abstract: The article describes general methods (grotesque, parody), motives (feasting, utopian description), tendencies (appealing to comic culture, democratization of language) that are present in the novels “Gargantua and Pantagruel” written by F. Rabelais and “Хрыстос прызямлiўся ў Гароднi” written by U. Karatkievich. Much attention is given to F. Rable’s novel reception by U. Karatkievich. Also it is considered the novels correlation with renaissance humanism and postmodernism, because different scientists have different points of views about what literary movements which the novels can be referred to. Key words: reception, grotesque, comic culture, feasting motive, utopia, democratization of language, renaissance humanism, postmodernism.
