Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the 19th century, scholars were fascinated by new discoveries of Antique marble statues of Greek and Roman origin with traces of original painting, however, in the 20th century the interest in this topic disappeared from incomprehensible reasons. Only in last few decades, the study of ‘colour’ Antiquity has returned to the attention of European researchers who use modern methods and technologies for examining colour pigments preserved on a surface of Antique marble and bronze. These researches prove that Greek and Roman statues were richly decorated by colours and disprove the rooted myth of puristic aesthetics of Ancient art.
