Summary/Abstract: The subject of this treatise is part of the history of odours focusing on the presentation of the catastrophic sanitary conditions in towns of the long-lasting 19th century. Particularly on the example of the town Ljubljana it reveals the image of exceedingly untidy lavatories with a "free wall", which main characteristics was an offensive stenchand in which numerous rats were often crawling over the heaps of excrement.
