Summary/Abstract: This presentation will focus on two (out of the four) codes of visual language, namely the symbolic and the iconic (Fledges, 2008), which will be applied to a few American and Romanian electoral posters of the 2008 and 2009 elections, respectively. The analysis of the posters will be related to cultural myths and beliefs on both sides of the world and will also underline the American influence in the creation of Romanian electoral posters.
