Summary/Abstract: Universal 1926 maintains that front vowels and palatal consonants prevail in diminutives. This sound symbolism was not proved. However, evaluative morphemes seem to trigger (mor)phonological changes in stems, which are not part of evaluative morphology. This paper aims to verify this hypothesis on a sample of Indo-European languages.
