The varied strugglesfor national independence and women’s concerns to achieve greater equity with men created significantspaces for sportswomen to build their physical culture, and in so doing, they made significantcontributions to the feminist goals of self-awareness and self-authorization, albeit within theboundaries of a still patriarchal, nationalist agenda.
