Career Development – a Motivating Factor for Young Educational Staff in Higher Education

Summary/Abstract: Career is one of the most important external motivating factors. It represents the true acknowledgement of an employee’s performance, in this case academic teaching staff. Nowadays, career is not associated only with promotion. Considerable motivation is given by opportunities of specialization in niches of a domain, but leadership positions can also be targeted. The career model offered within our educational system (under current specific legislation) by the hiring institution presents promotion opportunities and how competences can be developed. Winning scholarships, attending national or international conferences, managing projects, monitoring staff in departments or subsidiaries, organizing training sessions are just a few examples of the prospects presented to young academic teaching staff. Good human resources politics of a higher education institution advocates the promotion of a promising young academic staff, and drawing up, with his/her collaboration, a career development plan according to the domain requirements.
