Summary/Abstract: Economic equilibrium is one of the major themes found in economic literature at present. The paper presents some key theoretical issues relating to economic equilibrium. The concepts of economic equilibrium and economic imbalance are explained through the different schools of thought. Presenting various meanings of the two concepts mentioned above helps to define the concept of equilibrium. Currently, the economy as a whole is considered to be in a state of permanent change, and the equilibrium is analyzed from the dynamic point of view. The Romanian economy has, during 1990-2008, a trend marked by a series of disturbances. Studying the economic growth in the country helps a better understanding of the causes and effects of various changes in the economic and social system of Romania. On the basis of statistical data, it is possible to study the evolution of the economy of Romania. Thus, during the years 1990-1999, economic imbalances have been dominant in Romania. The economic imbalances have reduced significantly since the year 2000, but the financial crisis of late 2008 could cause the emergence of new problems of the economic system of Romania.
