Summary/Abstract: The article is composed of three parts. The first part raises the subject of forgiveness as a form of God's mercy and thus it places the raised subject in a theological context. Forgiveness as a form of mercy in interpersonal relationships is dealt with in the second part of the article which addresses the horizontal dimension of the idea of mercy. Part three is devoted to modern problems of forgiveness in the context of mercy, and the problems in question include the following: self-forgiveness, forgiveness of God, forgiveness in the context of the so-called intergenerational sins, forgiveness as one of the spiritual works of mercy: new forms and challenges, forgiveness as a form of mercy in the context of the ministry of a confessor and a spiritual leader.
