Summary/Abstract: Celebrating 5 years form the pronouncement of the International Court of Justice is a good opportunity to reflect on the significance of this process for international law and foreign policy of Romania. The political decision to accommodate the dispute at Hague was made after a careful assessment which concluded that negotiations could not bring results according to Romania's national interest. It was a choice that allowed Romania to effectively use the "smart" tools of international law for its benefit.
