Summary/Abstract: Local development is a process which is closely associated with the current business of all local governments. A lot of diverse factors, from macroeconomic to spatial or soft, influence local development. The diversity of influence on the local economy is very wide, which means there are many conditions supporting local development. Innovation and tradition are multidimensional and important notions in the current market economy. They are considered as factors affecting local development. Applying the technique of their mutual using gives small enterprises the possibility of building their position on the market, offering traditional, and at the same time innovative, high quality product. The above approach has a significant effect on stimulating local economy. Presenting arguments confirming the fact that the partnership of tradition and innovation constitutes a factor of local development is a purpose of the present article. The conducted analysis was based on the example of a small-sized enterprise from the baker’s industry, which has its branches in three urban-rural communes in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in particular on direct interviews with owners, employees and customers of the enterprise who on days of the inspection made the purchase of products in the bakery.
