The meaning of deliberation in the health care decision making process: Communication between doctors and a patients

Summary/Abstract: The paper aims in discussing the conditions of deliberation between doctor and patient in the sociological perspective. Structural approach directs our attention to power relations in interaction of this type. What is a main barrier in replacing the paternalistic model with Shared Decision Making one is an asymmetry of power relation. Basing on literature review author comes to conclusion that the most important for patient participation is not necessary participating in decision, but taking a part in deliberation process that preludes it.
