Summary/Abstract: The novel Pletači krletki (Weavers of cages) by Muhamed Kondžić brings us the whole gallery of characters, the characters of the Jews first, and their destiny as community and individuals alike. On the other hand, characters of Ustasha are precisely illustrated, first of all the Camp Officer Jero Trtica, tyrant and mental patient – showing through his character the whole ideological system. By this novel, Kondžić brings us first of all the psychological breakdown of community that efforts were made to destroy it completely, at first by humiliation, taking away the property and the worst – taking away them the right to live. There are the shocking pictures of those who remain and “wait” next train that will take them only in one direction. The novel brings us the horrifying pictures of physical and mental annihilation of a man by the power and the powerful persons - because the emphasis is on people and their relation to each other, while the war is present only as a background of the story. The power does not choose the means, by tyranny it produces the fear, sending to death those who have no opportunity to defend themselves even before the “official command”. In this novel Muhamed Kondžić speaks about a turning historical point, and about evil in / around the man, writes about the fate of individuals, ordinary people and what they are experienced, almost without any possibility to survive.
