Summary/Abstract: The lev has been the legal tender in Bulgaria since 1880 and since then several exchange rate regimes have been changed. The introduced currency board in 1997 is expected to act until the Euroarea membership. The questions discussed in the paper are: 1. What was the development of the exchange rate regimes in the transition period? 2. What are the effects of the exchange rate regimes in the country on foreign exchange risk?
