Summary/Abstract: The idea of human soul is present in the whole history of Christian teaching but the deeper philosophical analysis shows some inconsistencies in the use of this term. The classical Aristotelian-Thomistic concept of soul as a form of body doesn’t fit very well to the Christian idea of the life after death. Also the replacement of the “soul” with the term “mind” in analytical philosophy tends to the physicalist concept of human being. In return to these problems some new dualist (Moreland, Hasker) and hylomorfic (Jaworski) concepts were elaborated. The present article aims to show in what they correspond to the Christian teaching and what are problematic parts of them.
