Summary/Abstract: Very little is known today about the newspaper published in Bosnia and Herzegovina in ottoman language. This paper is precisely about the newspaper printed in ottoman language in Sarajevo. The author writes about the Vatan magazine and is trying to give its short description. The paper answers the question about the reasons for starting this magazine in time of Austro Hungarian reign in Bosnia, resents the themes that magazine dealt with and it summarizes the physical characteristics of the magazine. Vatan magazine is the first example of Austro Hungary allowing the newspaper to be published in ancient Turkish language. These were weekly newspaper printed on four pages and written exclusively in Turkish language. Vatan magazine contained of articles regarding social themes, military, cultural events, science, internal and external politics. Vatan was published in the period from 12th of september to 16th of april 1897. After Vatan magazine, the next publication was Rehber.
