Summary/Abstract: Economies of scale exist in case of an activity if average costs per output decrease along with the increase in volume of the output. This concept is quite frequently used especially for organizing businesses of capital intensive manufacturing and energetics, infrastructure or public services. However, there are significant fundamental differences between the industry and public services. To measure economies of scale it is necessary to set what can be considered as „costs” and what can be considered as „output”. In this study I deal with the economies of scale of a public service, namely land registry activity, which can be relatively harder to measure, but at the same time I wish to point out what type of examinations should precede reorganization of a public service on spatial grounds.
