Summary/Abstract: In this article, anecdotes compiled from Kahramanmaras were classified and some inferences were made about the culture of the city from these anecdotes. Having an important place among the anonymous folk literature, anecdote has various definitions in diferent sources. “Sententious and humorous, funny stories, anecdotes.” “Anecdotes are short narrations with patterns.” “ ‘Anecdote’ is what is called a short story intending to yied a “result” generally from real life experiences and having humour, joke and satire as core bases.” “Anecdotes are generally based on single incident. The center point is humanhuman, human-society relation. The contradictions in society life, conflicts as a result of thought and attitude differences are the main subjects.” 140 of the Kahramanmaras anecdotes which were being complied for two years and which can be categorized as “the anecdotes of locals” were chosen and the process of publishing into book started. But not all of the anectodes about that subject took part here. This article is comprised of 54 anecdotes. Subject titles are enumerated with numbers and the source of each anecdote is written in footnote. Containing eighteen chapters, the article has explanation parts under each title. Besides inferences have been made in the conclusion part from the anecdotes in the article
