The spatial nature of matrimonial behaviours

Summary/Abstract: The work presents a research approach of behavioural geography to the analysisof man’s spatial behaviours. Matrimonial behaviours constitute those which are influencedto a greater degree by behavioural factors (social status, education, nationality, religion)than spatial factors. Although in the process of marital selection, the future spouse’s spatialfeatures are important during selection, other features, such as demographic and socialones are also taken into consideration. This study presents selected theoretical approachesto marital selection. Yet another purpose thereof is to present and exemplify the spatial dimensionof marital selection in Poland on different levels: of voivodeships, of city-villageunits and of cities (on the example of Łódź).
