Summary/Abstract: Among the different genres of Slavic and Baltic folklore that have been preserved until today are the well-wishing carols, songs that are not of a Christian character but are a regularly repeated magical practice. Their texts demonstrate extraordinary durability and persistence: the first ones were written down in Poland in the 16th century and their variations can still be found in contemporary records.
