Summary/Abstract: Unlike in many other European countries, the tradition of women having a strong role in the society has along history in Latvia. Today, this role is exemplified by the number of high positions women hold in the country’s public life. In fact, Latvia is among the very few European states which have already had both a female president and prime minister.
