FILM ARCHIVE - SITUATION AND PROSPECTS OF PROTECTION OF AUDIOVISUAL HERITAGE IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the state and protection of audiovisual heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where they give general indications on the state of the same, and it was pointed out that in Bosnia and Herzegovina has not paid due attention to this valuable cultural heritage. Audiovisual heritage is in possession of several owners and creators. The most significant collections of film material and structure of the films are in the Film Archive of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this institution were not created adequate conditions for the protection of that material, so that the material is exposed to constant decay. Employees of Film Archive of Bosnia and Herzegovina are doing everything in their power to reduce consequence, to have part of this valuable film heritage restored and part digitized and thus saved from further deterioration. Condition of audiovisual heritage which is in legal and physical persons is uncertain. To audiovisual heritage in Bosnia and Herzegovina has to be safe, it is necessary to take some concrete actions, and above all: to resolve the status of JU Film Archive of Bosnia and Herzegovina, add personnel to strengthen the institution, to bring relevant legislation, pay particular attention to the process of succession of audiovisual heritage of the former Yugoslavia, and continue work on the restoration and digitization of audiovisual heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this way, this valuable cultural treasures can be saved.
