Summary/Abstract: The first scanning of archive material, and therefore photo collections in the Archives of Bosnia and Herzegovina was carried out for the need of exhibitions and at the request of users, without an elaborate plan for creating a functional database, using inadequate equipment and without established standards and quality control. Its first professional equipment Archives obtained no sooner than around 2011, followed by scheduled scanning of photographic material. Lack of trained staff, no established standards of scanning, unverified storing methods and the absence of the similar practices in other institutions have forced employees to learn from their own mistakes and often only after several attempts to got the desired result. The end of this process is still far away, but until today the standards to be followed are established, the time from the selection and preparation of materials to the final result is shortened and image processing techniques of different formats and materials were improved. This paper will introduce some of the fundamental standards and concepts of digital imaging in the Archives of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
