Summary/Abstract: Space is a stationary datum, culture is a dynamic, evolutionary process, while tourism is a consumption of space and culture. Theories presenting tourism as a growth factor or as an enhancer, although they do not mistake, they overlook a variable: tourism is not an inexhaustible multiplier. As any other industry, tourism is a resource consuming process. What could be the consumed resource in that case? The space, the landscape and the culture or, better said cultural diversity. With every step made on a territory that is foreign to his community the tourist takes a share of local culture and leaves, in exchange, an equivalent share of his own culture.
