Summary/Abstract: The integration of multimedia resources in education brings about, beside a welcome adaptation of the didactic activities to the possibilities of present day technologies, considerable additional motivation not only for the students, but also for the teachers preoccupied by their performance in class. In an age of information and technological boom neither the magister, nor their apprentices, not even the didactic supports are no longer what they had once been, an aspect well known by all the stakeholders of the school textbook industry (teachers, educators, psychologists, methodologists, national or local supervisors, editors). Technological progress and the new learning habits led to the search of new preparation and solutions for the integration of ITC in education. A didactic multimedia support reunites « several media types » (text, sound, static or animated image, etc.) available in a digital format, included in the same informatic support, so that these types are in permanent interaction. In fact, the multimedia teaching support is a software found in a computer USB, CD, or DVD, but also on-line on internet sites. The purpose of the present paper is to discuss off-line supports, the two main classes of multimedia software – the educational software (repetition and education game software) and the software targeted at the general public software (reference, culture, instrumental, ludic, or game). From among the different types of games, those which can be used as a teaching aid are several adventure and simulation games. We will try to show the ways in which the multimedia teaching aids can efficiently support the teaching activity as well as the learner’s efforts in the specific context of the communicative learning of foreign languages. We will present three instances of alternative foreign language learning methods dedicated to beginners. The first method is EDU START ENGLISH, a method conceived and produced in Romania for the first grade schoolers The second is called MUZZY, on the market for over 20 years; produced by BBC for 4 to 12 year old children, it was spread in Romania in 2012 by Litera Publishing House. The third method is the 2012 product of a famous French textbook publisher, Didier. It is the digital French textbook, called LATITUDES a1-a2, dedicated to young and adult learners. The methods present various degrees of complexity, both from the technical and teaching (content and activities) point of view.
