Summary/Abstract: This study has as starting point a conclusion we have reached as teacher of French at the university: Romanian students entering the university have little knowledge of French idiomatic expressions whereas these expressions represent an important part of the French lexicon which, furthermore, is characterized by a strong cultural dimension. In order to understand the causes for this situation, we aim at examining several elements: instructions given by the CEFR, Romanian school curricula, several French textbooks used at the moment in Romania. Our remarks will also be based on testimony received from teachers and students.
