Summary/Abstract: "If we were to refer the question in the title to Fillmore’s theory of deep cases, we would rather have to reformulate it as follows: are case morphemes means of expressing relational concepts? [...]" "As far as the dative is concerned, a preliminary study of the selected part of the material shows that it functions as a syntactic indicator of the syntactic position both in the nuclear structures and (at least some of) the derived ones. It does not mean a priori that it cannot fulfill a semantic function, similarly to other synthetic and analytical cases. One has only to find language constructions where dative morphemes are expressions of concepts that co-create composite conceptual structures."
