Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the image of a Westerner in The Lumberjack Show and The Wild West Show. These shows are an expression of a popular phenomenon in China, which is “staging” foreigners. A new way of presenting foreigners results from the new national narrative in post-Mao China. The aim of this article is to demonstrate how the Chinese new national identity is created in the two shows. The image of foreigners is compared to the image of Westerners in the network-centric vision of the world of China’s imperial period.
