Summary/Abstract: This study has two main premises. The first one is that the death of the person disturbs the one who writes the obituary and drives him to fustian expressions (panegyric, self-praise, etc). The second premise is that the obituaries are divided up into two parts (which are also the independent samples):”death obituaries” (n1= 62 in our study) and “commemoration obituaries” (n2= 67 in our study). The difference consists in the fact that “commemoration obituaries” are written after some years, in generally. I sectioned the obituary into the next elements, witch are also dependent variables: the number of fustian, elliptical, direct, religious, stereotypical and the total number of words (each one of them measured on quantitative scale). On one hand, I tested the differences produced by the time in obituary expressions. According to Mann-Withney test, there are more elliptical expressions in commemorations (p= 0,014), but there are no significant differences between the fustian expressions (I offer a possible analytical interpretation for these results). On the other hand, I analysed the content itself of the obituaries, finding correlations between different parts of it. For example, between the total number of words and fustian expressions (admitted hypothesis with Kendall, p<0,001, r = 0, 37 medium coefficient, r² = 0, 13 medium effect). The study provides also observations and details about the link between this study and other studies on this area.
