Summary/Abstract: The fact that Romania is both NATO and EU member makes its eastern border the same with the border of those two organizations. This new architecture of regional security configuration determines potential risks and threats to our country and thus to the security of the strategic alliances in which it belongs. Romania has prepared systematically for joining the Schengen area in the same time with the activities that have targeted the integration in the European Union. The actions in this area have followed the course set by the Schengen Action Plan revised in 2008. Sealing the agreement on local border traffic between Romania and Republic of Moldova, on October 20, 2009, in Chisinau, is in addition to the economic opportunities generated, a new risk to the safety and security of the eastern border of Romania, NATO and the EU.
