Summary/Abstract: In this study, I tried to capture the presence of some multiple reading ”layers” in the novel The Forbidden Forest, by Mircea Eliade. In my opinion, the mythical depth substrate is deeply hidden by the writer and it reffers neither to Indian myths, nor to Iranian ones, but to Romanian legendary background Therefore, I will try to emphasize that Eliadeʹ s novel remakes a tragic love story – in the sense of Greek tragedy – of the two luminaries, the Sun and the Moon, the protagonists of Romanian ancient beliefs.
