The Scandal (scandalum) Issues in Thomas Aquinas

Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the scandal issues in the view of Thomas Aquinas. Thomas’ tractate of the scandal has its firm fundament in the biblical text which he translates into the systematical form. It discerns “scandal of the little ones” from “Pharisaical scandal”, active scandal from passive scandal. It draws out the basic discernments when to avoid the scandal and when to risk it with regard to the maintenance of the verity of doctrine, life and justice. In conclusion the paper summarizes the actual aspects of Thomas’ tractate of the scandal.
