Péter Nádas’s letter to Miklós Mészöly

Summary/Abstract: “I am of a headstrong opinion that people of such importance as you two, in a culture so smashed as ours cannot afford the luxury of enduring anger, if only from sober speculation.” Péter Nádas is one of the most important, internationally renowned authors of contemporary Hungarian literature. The journal Jelenkor published a special issue for his sixtieth birthday. He considered Miklós Mészöly one of his most important masters. His letter from 1989 turned up from Mészöly’s papers after his death.
