Summary/Abstract: Since the sixteenth century János [= John] is one of the most popular Hungarian male name. The name-day of 27th December is an eminent winter feast day. Group singing, chanting, greeting are linked to it. Based on the data of historical and traditional custom of ritual texts, the article limits itself to present the greetings of the Day of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John known in the community of Zsibó – Szilágy county, relying on a person’s commemorations who is/was regularly celebrated.
