Summary/Abstract: Memories of the Second World War in Germany and in Poland strongly follow national patterns, yet with a variety of different narratives. The national memory patterns show that the images of the past and, closely intertwined with this, a national self understanding are challenged by a confrontation with transnational discourses, especially when it comes to attributions of victimhood and perpetratorship.
