Summary/Abstract: As a teacher of English for Specific Purposes, I firmly believe that purposeful and authentic language use as well as involvement of students in tasks relevant to their field of academic and occupational interest highly facilitates achievement of learning objectives. In my opinion, project work meets these desiderata: not only does it provide students with meaningful context and the chance to use genuine specialist language, but it also encourages them to be creative within the constraints of a clear-cut framework. This article considers several aspects of a project completed by first-year students at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport of Babeş-Bolyai University during their first semester of study. I start by showing that project work is an appropriate tool for teaching ESP. Then, I explain the reasons behind the choice of this particular project. Next, I present the stages of the project. Finally, I comment on students’ feedback that was measured by means of a questionnaire.
