Preliminary to a typology of photo images

Summary/Abstract: The today diversity of the photo images is unsettling, being a true challenge thrown to the theoreticians of the visual communications. Considering one of Roland Barthes’s statements, this work presents some ideas that could be preliminaries to the typology of photo images. This approach to classify lies as an empirical necessity in several fields; it sets a certain order, allowing a better understanding of what seems to be similar. The conclusion is that it’s necessary to scrutinize and analyze the living phenomenon of comprising the old and new categories, of the evolution of each of them, a fact that would allow us to better understand the quintessence of the photographical image.
